This easy strawberry banana smoothie recipe turns out creamy, delicious, and perfectly sweet. It’s quick, healthy, and both adults and kids go crazy for it.

You only need a handful of simple ingredients and a blender for this strawberry smoothie. The strawberries and banana make it naturally creamy and so flavorful. My family makes it so often, it’s basically our house smoothie recipe at this point.
If you’ve been wondering how to make a simple, healthy strawberry smoothie that actually tastes good, this is the one. It’s quick, easy, and always delicious. For more like this, see all of our smoothie recipes.
Key Ingredients
- Strawberries: I use a heaping cup of strawberries. Frozen strawberries are my favorite for smoothies because they make everything extra creamy, but fresh strawberries work too.
- Banana: One banana adds natural sweetness and helps make the smoothie thick and creamy. Frozen banana works especially well and makes it even creamier.
- Half an orange: When I have oranges in the house, I love adding them to my morning smoothie. It adds a little tropical flavor and extra vitamin C. I also add it to my favorite banana smoothie.
- Vanilla extract: I love adding a tiny bit of vanilla to my strawberry smoothies, and I highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it!
- Milk (dairy or non-dairy): A little liquid helps everything blend. Use water for a lighter smoothie, or use milk for a creamier one. Both options work really well.

How to Make a Strawberry Smoothie
Tip 1: Start with frozen fruit. You can use fresh fruit in our recipe below, but for the absolute creamiest smoothie, use frozen fruit. Frozen strawberries and bananas make the smoothie cold and creamy without needing ice. If you start with fresh fruit and want that thicker, icy texture, blend in a few ice cubes.

Tip 2: Blend at low speed, then increase to high. To make the smoothie, add strawberries, the banana, half an orange, vanilla extract, and a splash of milk to a blender. Then begin blending on low speed. This helps everything catch and blend smoothly, especially when using frozen fruit. Finish at high speed for a super-smooth, creamy smoothie.
Tip 3: Add more liquid as needed. Start with the amount of liquid called for in the recipe, then add more if the smoothie is too thick. Every blender is different, so adjusting helps you get the texture just right.
Smoothie Variations
One of my favorite things about smoothies is that you can always make them your own. Here are some of our favorite variations and mix-ins:
- Make it sweeter with a few pitted dates, a bit more orange, or a bit more banana.
- Add protein with a scoop of protein powder, or blend in 2 to 4 tablespoons of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese.
- Blend in 1 to 2 tablespoons of nut or seed butter. We love almond butter, cashew butter, sunbutter, or peanut butter.
- Add some healthy fats and fiber with flaxseed meal, chia seeds, wheat germ, or hemp seeds. Add 1 to 3 teaspoons.
- Add a hint of chocolate with cocoa powder or cocoa nibs. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons.
- Make it a green smoothie with spinach or kale. Blend in 1/2 to 1 cup of leaves.
Make Ahead Tips
- Freeze your fruit. Keep bags of frozen strawberries and sliced bananas in the freezer so smoothies come together quickly and stay creamy without ice. They last for up to 3 months.
- Prep smoothie packs. Add the strawberries, banana, and any add-ins (like chia or nut butter) to small freezer bags or containers. When you’re ready to make a smoothie, empty the pack into the blender and add your milk or water.
- Blend and refrigerate. You can blend this smoothie up to 1 day in advance. Store it in an airtight jar in the fridge. The texture will thicken as it sits, so give it a shake or stir and add a splash of liquid before drinking.
- Blend and freeze. Smoothies freeze really well. Pour into a jar or freezer container, leaving a bit of room at the top. Thaw in the fridge overnight, or run warm water over the jar to loosen, then shake.

- Storing: Refrigerate for up to a day or freeze for up to 3 months. The smoothie can separate a little as it sits (or thaws). Shake, stir, or briefly blend again to bring everything back together.

Oh, I love you addition of coconut creme! How lovely.
Can I add wheat germ to this recipe
Hi Keisha, Absolutely. I’d add it the same way I add flaxseed meal. Start with 1 tablespoon and go from there as it will thicken the smoothie a bit.
Yummmm!! Thank you for this recipe!
So happy you enjoy it!
you need to maake a more wonderful yummy food
I didn’t realise how nutritious strawberries actually are until I started searching for recipes this morning. This strawberry smoothie is utterly delicious….I stuck everything you recommended in, except I made it with goat milk! I was going to drink half then freeze the rest for later….didn’t happen!🤣 Also I don’t have any bloating…I have huge problems with so much food, I have to be careful. I usually don’t enjoy strawberry smoothie much but have it one last try with this recipe and it was perfect for me! Thank you!
We are so happy you enjoyed your smoothie. Thank you so much for the kind review 🙂
I can’t wait to try these smoothies. Thank you so much
A very nice smoothie, thanks for the recipe. I used almond milk.
How could I make this strawberry smoothie without bananas, and still keep it really nutritious? Love your idea of making smoothie packs for the freezer, but since I’m allergic to bananas, ideas for healthy smoothies are very scarce! Thanks!
Hi Lynne, You can leave the banana out or use another creamy fruit. Mangoes blend into a really nice creamy consistency so that’s my favorite alternative. Otherwise, you could substutute with a handful of nut (like cashews) or use some nut butter to add a little extra creaminess to the smoothie.
your smoothie is the best I only add fruit and then some protien
This looks fab esp when I’ve been reading how underrated strawberries are for nutrition! I usually don’t add dairy to a smoothie but I wonder if almond milk would be a good companion to this?
Hi Patti, Almond milk is an excellent option!
