These banana shortcakes are inspired by bananas foster. Use your favorite store-bought biscuit dough, or our homemade biscuits recipe. Then, make the banana caramel sauce and top with whipped cream. So good!
4 biscuits, from frozen, refrigerated, or homemade biscuits
8 tablespoons unsalted butter (113 g)
½ cup packed brown sugar (100 g)
¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
4 bananas, peeled and sliced
4 tablespoons water
Homemade whipped cream, for serving
1Bake biscuits: Preheat the oven and bake the biscuits as directed on the package or in your recipe.
2Make banana caramel: Meanwhile, melt the butter in a large skillet with a lid over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and whisk until it melts into the butter. Add the salt and water, then whisk until smooth. Cover and set aside (off the heat) until the biscuits are done.
3Build shortcakes: When the biscuits are ready, add the banana slices to the sauce and cook until tender, about 2 minutes. Split the warm biscuits and place them on individual plates. Spoon bananas and sauce over the bottoms, top with a generous dollop of whipped cream, then finish with the biscuit tops and a drizzle of extra sauce.
